Archaeology Brown Bag Lecture Series

As a result of a collaboration between Prof. Schroeder & Tamara Thomsen of the Wisconsin Historical Society to contact local museums, historical societies, tribal museums, & private individuals, & through diving expeditions, we have identified more than 70 dugouts from Wisconsin & documented more than 50 of them. We present preliminary results of the survey, including analyses of canoe size, style, raw material, & age, to show similarities & differences in dugouts through time and across space.
