Atmospheric Blocking: Climatological Drivers and Associated Weather Extremes in Current and Warmer Climates

Event Details

Date
Monday, October 2, 2023
Time
3:30-5 p.m.
Description
Atmospheric Blocks are persistent anticyclones that can lead to devastating weather, yet much about them remains to be understood. In this talk we will first review the dynamical and climatological features of atmospheric blocking and associated weather extremes. Afterwards, we will focus on blocking as it relates to heat extremes over North America, both in current climate and end of 21st century projections. Finally, the blocking climatology in warmer climates will be examined.
