Exploratory and Explanatory data processes: From developing insights to data stories

What are the similarities and differences between exploratory and explanatory data analysis methods and what are their roles throughout a research process? We will explore an example of a hypothetical research process and the role(s) of visualization in exploring a dataset, developing insights, checking hypotheses, and communicating results to audiences.
