First Nations Cultural Landscape Tour for DoIT employees

Description

See the UW–Madison campus through the lens of 12,000 years of human history on this guided walking tour for DoIT colleagues.

Registration closes May 22 and is limited to 25 people.

What to expect

An experienced guide will lead participants through campus buildings, historical markers and archaeological sites, tracing the transformation of Teejop (day-JOPE, meaning Four Lakes) into Madison. 

You'll leave with a deeper understanding of the university's historical and contemporary relationships with Native Nations, including the Ho-Chunk Nation, on whose ancestral lands the university sits.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to travel up to 2 miles across mostly flat, paved terrain
  • This tour will avoid Bascom Hill and include opportunities to sit and rest
  • Wear appropriate shoes and clothing for two hours outdoors
  • Hiking poles and telescoping stools are available by request
