Description
After tours with jazz legend Herbie Hancock and alternative R&B band Moonstruck, Michael Mayo has stepped into his own with two albums including the Grammy Award–nominated Fly . With a rich, smooth voice that sounds straight off your favorite vinyl, he “exists in a lineage of similarly dexterous singers like Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, and Betty Carter” (NPR’s Tiny Desk). A Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter inspired by Fiona Apple and Billie Holiday, whose music is equally at home in the worlds of jazz, neo-soul, and R&B, Mayo’s unflappable cheer belies his depth as he issues hard truths with a soft touch.
