“Witold Gombrowicz’s Theatrophobia: The Playwright and His Double,” a lecture by Allen Kuharski
Event Details
Date
Thursday, September 24, 2026
Time
4-5:15 p.m.
Location
206 Ingraham Hall
Description
Witold Gombrowicz is Poland’s most produced playwright around the world—and more performed abroad than in Poland itself. Gombrowicz’s theater leads a double life: it has always been simultaneously performed in the most “classical” established institutional settings and embraced by the theatrical avant-garde. At the same time, no playwright was so deliberately distanced from their own work.
