Description
Why Bonnnie is an Austin bedroom pop quartet that explores the disjointed feelings between our inner and outer selves, alternating between light buoyancy and hazy intensity. Half a decade ago, vocalist Blair Howerton moved back to Texas after graduating college and started the Why Bonnie project as a way to work through her years of unheard material. She found an easy collaborator in childhood friend Kendall Powell, who traded her classical piano training for new synth magic. Soon, guitarist Sam Houdek and bassist Chance Williams joined the line-up, and the group’s first two EPs showed off a penchant for fuzzy guitar pop with synth flourishes. BaileyRP is currently making waves in the American music scene for bringing a digital maximalist touch to the recently popularized “stripped-down” genre, for the first time ever, and in a way that has A&R’s calling her the “obvious lovechild of Mk.gee and Imogen Heap”, and a “pioneer of digicore-folk.” Hailing from Longmont, Colorado, and heavily influenced by themes of ethereal fantasy, introspection, spiritual growth, romance, and heartbreak, Bailey draws artistic inspiration from artists like Dijon, The 1975, Aquilo, 2hollis, and Ed Sheeran, to create sonic masterpieces that encapsulate the listener within a world that resembles a Minecraft realm, or a vintage Super Mario level. Half Gringa is Chicago-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Isabel Olive. She has demonstrated stunning emotional intelligence and songwriting elegance, and it has not gone unnoticed. The Chicago Reader named Half Gringa’s debut, Gruñona as among Chicago’s Best Albums of the Decade while VICE named her sophomore full-length, Force to Reckon as one of 22 Essential Albums of 2020, saying that Half Gringa specializes in “empathic and twangy songs about grief and getting stuck in your own thoughts.”
