Statistics Seminar
David Dahl: Bayesian Clustering with Elicited Beliefs about Cluster Sizes
Event Details
Date
Thursday, October 15, 2026
Time
1-2 p.m.
Location

Description
The Lorenz partition distribution offers a flexible Bayesian clustering prior that lets analysts specify beliefs about both the number of clusters and their relative sizes. Using Lorenz curves, it captures patterns of cluster-size imbalance beyond the Gini coefficient. The talk presents its construction, theoretical guarantees, and examples showing how incorporating size information can reduce over-splitting and improve clustering.
