Isabelle Druc, Department of Anthropology, will provide a movie presentation and discussion about the production of ‘çömlek’ in central Anatolia. Women play a major role in the production of handmade, utilitarian earthenware in Turkey, while the production of wheel-made çini ceramics is reserved to men. In Sorkun, as in other villages in the rural areas, the different steps of production are all carried out by the women or under their direction.
