Description
Clinical decision-support systems (CDSSs) provide valuable assistance in evaluating and treating patients. As these systems become more capable of detecting or predicting clinically relevant events, shifting from passive information sources to active participants, their effectiveness depends on translating system outputs into minimally disruptive communications. I discuss recurring design challenges about attention, timing, information needs, workflow integration, trust, and interruption.
