Eugene Trani, Virginia Commonwealth University and former UW–Madison vice president for academic affairs, will discuss how the distinctiveness of land-grant institutions has progressively eroded during the last 50 years and examine how UW–Madison has modernized “the Wisconsin Idea” to respond to the economic challenges facing the state. A light reception will follow.
