Three things to know about Africa and the Great War (Since the Centenary)

The African world’s multifaceted involvement in the First World War remains marginal in existing historiography, despite increased scholarly and public interest during the Great War centenary (2014–2018). Foregrounding African and African diasporic perspectives, this talk offers three unconventional ways of understanding the war’s violent yet generative effects on their socio-economic, political, and spiritual lives.
