Lecture by Jeffrey S. Gurock, Yeshiva University. Based on Gurock's new work in progress on the history of the Jews of New York from 1925-present, this talks looks at the tensions within inter-war Jewish neighborhoods between the majority whose identities were rooted in their daily, mundane friendly associations and a distinct minority who sough to lead all others to harbor strong ideological commitments.
