Description
Through war, conquest, trade, exploration, migration, the known world expanded across oceans and continents in the early modern period. This lecture will consider a few forms of innovation, exchange and adaptation that emerged as part of that expansion, as in language and healing. Examples will be drawn from the Mediterranean and Canada, but especially from African/European connections in Africa and the Caribbean. Can the Humanities today push beyond these forms of exchange?
