Description
Peter Maxwell Davies' "Eight Songs for a Mad King" stirred up much controversy immediately after its 1969 premiere. Written for and premiered by a legendary actor-singer Roy Hart, this piece is a vocal tour-de-force depiction of madness. The character is inspired by King George III, who allegedly went mad. This performance is part of a lecture-recital, in which the piece will be discussed, followed by a full performance.
