Description
Presented by Michael Dougherty, doctoral student in development studies. Free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) is generally applied to indigenous peoples facing externally introduced, large-scale projects in their territory, such as dams and mines. Some scholars suggest that NGOs assume responsibility for facilitating FPIC on behalf of affected communities. As a policy construct, FPIC should be reevaluated. The presentation will be followed by discussion.
