"Maria Stuarda," based on the play by Friedrich von Schiller, offers a fictional meeting between Queen Elizabeth and Mary Stewart, resulting in vocal fireworks seldom found in bel canto opera. The cast includes Emily Birsan in the title role; Celeste Fraser portraying Queen Elizabeth; and J. Adam Shelton, John Arnold, Justin Niehoff Smith and Megan Gryga in the other leading roles. William Farlow directs and James Smith is the conductor. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
