					Description

What happens to the national “soul” and homeland when a self-defined “nation of farmers” is liberated at long last from Soviet domination and collectivized agriculture, only to be absorbed into a homogenizing and increasingly post-agrarian European Union? This lecture examines the diversity of local responses to European-funded aid projects in nature management and rural development in post-Soviet Latvia during the first decade of independence.
