Tino Balio not only directed the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research from 1966-82 but led the field of film industry studies for over 40 years. His numerous publications include United Artists: The Company Built by the Star (1919-1950); United Artists: The Company That Changed the Film Industry (1951-1978); Grand Design: Hollywood as a Modern Business Enterprise, and a forthcoming book on the U.S. art film market, 1946-1973.
