Marc Vernet for many years held the post of director of the Bibliothèque du Film, the leading film library in France. He served on the faculty of the Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III, in the Etudes Cinématographiques et Audiovisuelles department and now teaches at the Université de Paris VII – Diderot. His books include Estétique du film, Photos de cinéma: autour de la nouvelle vague and Figures de l'absence.
