In the archives of the Sprachatlas in Marburg/Lahn (Germany) are the personal papers of Bruno Schweizer who -- under the auspices of Nazi Germany’s Kulturkommission -- documented the Cymbrian language (a German dialect spoken in northern Italy). James R. Dow, Iowa State University, will discuss Schweizer’s work and will present audio recordings made in the spring of 1941 in the village of Giazza.
