Description
New research at Trempealeau, Wis., and newer theories of agency and materiality suggest that our understanding of colonization requires rethinking. At Trempealeau, evidence has been recovered of a nine-century-old intrusion of Cahokians into the north. Possibly, they colonized the north for religious reasons. The religion emanating from Cahokia emphasized positioning oneself in a moving cosmos. The effects of a Trempealeau mission on the Upper Mississippi Valley may have been profound.
