Meghan Doherty, fellow at the Center for Visual Cultures. As part of a larger project on the accuracy and the visual culture of the early Royal Society, "Discovering the 'True Form'" investigates how a semblance to a recognizable visual idiom produces images that pass for "accurate" by studying the illustrations in Robert Hooke's Micrographia (1665) and shows that the visual culture of microscopy is dependent upon the visual culture of portrait engraving.
