Description
Future king of Ruritania (Ronald Colman) invites his English cousin to his coronation. When nefarious throne-seeker Raymond Massey poisons the king, he forces his cousin to step into the role. Meanwhile, the king’s fiancée (Madeleine Carroll) is starting to feel certain things for this doppelgänger… Producer David O. Selznick seized on the abdication of Edward VIII to give this yarn a topical edge, which resulted in the definitive adaptation of Anthony Hope’s adventure novel.
