Gender and Women's Studies Colloquium

Kamna Patel conducted an ethnographic study to ask shack dwellers in Durban about their experiences of tenure security and insecurity and the strategies they adopted to achieve a sufficient degree of security. The study offers a detailed and different perspective on tenure security in slums and frames tenure insecurity as a gendered experience and approaches to security as gender-conscious strategies.
