For more than 200 years, Itzá Maya living on the shores of Lake Petén-Itzá in the lowland jungles of northern Guatemala resisted conquest by Spanish conquistadors, colonists and priests. Initial results from the second field season at the site of Tayasal, Guatemala, place changing patterns of animal use from the Postclassic through Colonial periods in a social and political context at the last site conquered by the Spanish in all of the Americas.
