Cinematheque: Totò - Clown Prince of Italian Comedy

In his satire of 50s Italian society, Camillo Mastrocinque shows there's no such thing as being too honest with money. Before he dies, an engraver leaves all the necessary equipment for counterfeiting to his naïve doorman, Antonio (Totò). With his friends (Peppino De Filippo and Giacomo Furia), Antonio gets to work right away. This is a wonderful showcase for Totò and Peppino's improvised routines, which integrate nonsense language with exaggerated gestures. (35mm, 87 min., subtitled.)
