Description
David Bartel (HHMI, MIT). Bartel is known in part for his work on microRNAs, ~22-nucleotide transcripts that bind to protein-coding genes and repress translation. Bartel has also significantly contributed to the RNA world hypothesis, the idea that before DNA and protein, RNA performed both DNA's job of encoding information and protein's job of catalyzing replication. Part of the 2011 Student-Invited Speaker Series in the Deptartment of Biochemistry.
