Description
Poe's short story inspired this Gothic tale in which the guilt-ridden Price's new marriage is soured by the evil spirit of his supposedly dead first wife. The witty script (by a young Robert Towne) contains lines such as "About ten minutes ago, I tried to kill a cat with a cabbage." In color and CinemaScope, this is one of the most stylish Corman-Price Poe adaptations. (USA, 1964, 35mm, 81 min.; directed by Roger Corman; with Vincent Price, Elizabeth Shepherd, John Westbrook)
