Description
Robinson, professor of anthropology at Australian National University, presents "Modalities of propagation of Islam in the Sulawesi interior: lessons for understanding Islamisation in eastern Indonesia?" Drawing on fieldwork in South Sulawesi and historical sources, this lecture explores Islamic conversion in the villages on the shores of Lake Matano at the beginning of the twentieth century, and the intensification of piety linked to the Darul Islam rebellion following Indonesian independence.
