Event Details
Date
Friday, July 13, 2012
Time
6:30 p.m.
Location
Morphy Recital Hall, Mosse Humanities Building
Description
Presented by Jim Carrier, filmmaker.
Today we take for granted that the banjo, America's indigenous instrument, was imported from Africa by slaves and refined in America. But this cultural memory was lost for nearly a century. We can thank a music librarian born in Milwaukee, Dena Epstein, for rediscovering and documenting the roots of the banjo. Clips from a documentary in production will be shown.
