Time

Description
By J. Michael Allsen, Professor of Music, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
The sampler was one of the most common handicrafts in early America. Much more than a simple sewing lesson, a sampler displayed various stitches, artistic skill and imagination, and even philosophy. This year’s All-Festival Concert is a musical sampler that displays the rich variety of the styles in Colonial and Antebellum America, and Allsen’s lecture explores the styles and repertoire stitched into this program.
