Marta-Laura Suska will discuss the polemical presence of the Unidades de Polícia Pacificadora (Pacification Police Units) in the hillside favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro that aim to eradicate drug-related violence and to assure security ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
