Memorial Service Scheduled for Art Professor Gelsy Verna

Verna was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1961, the second of six children. Her father was a radiologist and her mother a teacher. She received a B.F.A. in 1988 and an M.F.A. in 1990, both from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She came to the Department of Art in 2001 after teaching painting and drawing at the University of Iowa for six years.
