Cinematheque: Lacis Festival de Cine

Reggae legend Cliff is sensational in his acting debut as Ivan, a poor singer from the countryside who comes to Kingston to hit it big as a recording star. When his record gets no promotion, Ivan finds work in the city’s criminal underworld and ultimately becomes a fugitive folk hero. The first Jamaican feature film, shown here in a recently struck 35mm print, is politically charged and filled with great Cliff songs, including “You Can Get it if You Really Want” and the title tune.
