Description
Terry Millar, UW Department of Mathematics, looks at the birth (Democritus 450 B.C.E.), use (Archimedes, Leibniz, Newton), persecution (Eudoxus, Berkeley, Russell), death (Bolzano, Cauchy, Weirstrauss19th Century), and resurrection (Robinson 1960) of infinitesimals as a mathematical construct. Refreshments will be served.
