While undernutrition and infectious diseases are still persistent in sub-Saharan Africa, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become more prevalent. Epidemiological data on NCDs in sub-Saharan Africa is summarized, and challenges and opportunities for addressing NCD risk are discussed.
