Moderated by Professor Chris Dunn, Tulane University, Brazil Initiative Fellow. This panel will discuss the recent wave of demonstrations that began in June 2013 in different parts of the country. The impetus of the protests was a 10¢ bus fair rate hike in the city of São Paulo but the movement quickly began to focus on other problems plaguing Brazil such as corruption, exorbitant spending on the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics as well as the underfunded public health and education systems.
