Materials Science Program Seminar

Adventures in Materials Flatland: Frustration, Folding, Topology

Event Details

Date
Thursday, February 27, 2014
Time
4-5 p.m.
Description
Vincent Crespi, Physics, Penn State. Crespi will give an overview of a broad selection of research topics in the group, including: the interplay of entropy with boundaries in artificial frustrated magnetic nanolattices; some novel physics of folding in a broad array of 2D systems, including ways to program a fold into an initially flat structure; how dual-sided adsorption to atomically thin layers can animate a new regime of geometrically constrained surface physics and chemistry;
