Materials Science Program Seminar
Materials chemistry: from sustainable metallurgy to biodegradable electronics
Event Details
Date
Thursday, March 27, 2014
Time
4 p.m.
Location
Description
Lan Yin, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With a focus on investigations of materials degradation behavior, three novel engineering systems were developed: (i) Metal extraction through electrolysis. The identification of chromium-based anode materials with superior corrosion resistance enables a carbon-free electrolytic liquid iron production process, namely molten oxide electrolysis (MOE) that can potentially mitigate greenhouse gas emission; (ii) Liquid metal battery (LMB).
