Description
Omar will discuss how the Mughal prince Dara Shikuh applied interreligious hermeneutics as a way to achieve greater self-understanding.Dara attempted to (inter-religiously) interpret Hindu and Islamic religious texts within the context of his encounters with a Hindu‘other’. Methodological problems aside, Dara’s work sought to deconstruct the notion that ideological differences between Hinduism and Islam are the only (or even the primary) lens through which to formulate one’s view of the other.
