Description
Musicologist and dance scholar Susan C. Cook and Mayrent Institute Director Henry Sapoznik in conversation about the recording career and legacy of legendary African American composer and bandleader James Reese Europe (1881-1919). Central to the popularity of pre-World War I ragtime dance, Europe volunteered for service in WWI and led an army band who performed for French audiences and made recordings after the war.
