A look at social, political, and religious structures and conventions in the 18th century Atlantic world from the vantage point of a Moravian missionary couple, based on contemporary sources, addressing issues of conquest, migration, slavery, religion, individualism, gender, etc. in the context of contact between people of different ethnicity, religion, and status in society in Suriname, St. Thomas, Georgia, New York, and other places.
