Description
Senator Gaylord Nelson deployed a capacious definition of “environment” in an effort to build a broad political coalition and foster grassroots activism when he founded Earth Day in 1970. This symposium gathers scholars from 16 institutions, working in 14 different disciplines, to continue Nelson’s work. We will revisit familiar terms used to think about the environment, opening up new inquiry across a broad range of disciplines both inside and outside the academy.
