Description
Cities drive complex economies that operate outside of natural limits to maximize efficiency, especially labor and energy. Efforts to localize agriculture are not scaled to urban needs. Sustainable agriculture and the regional economic infrastructure necessary to move food to market offer a middle way to optimize both food system efficiencies and resilience. What system efficiencies are critical to feed city populations? What are indicators of food system resilience? How can we optimize both?
