Leaf-Cutter Ants in Action

Event Details

Date
Saturday, April 2, 2016
Time
10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Location
Microbe Place, Microbial Sciences
Description
Leaf-cutter ants are different from their termite cousins. Both insects depend on plants for food. Termites eat wood. In contrast, leaf-cutter ants cut leaves, but don't eat them--the ants make the leaves into a garden for fungi, and then live off the fungi that grow on the leaves. Come see how researchers puzzle out these amazing relationships!
