England had a tradition of religious independence and dissent that stretched back into the Middle Ages, but in the age of the Tudors – particularly the reigns of Henry VIII and his children Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I – religion would become the most important domestic issue. This lecture will trace the religious upheaval of 16th century England, and survey the music that arouse from this ferment.
