Description
Six-time Grammy Award-winners The Chieftains have been bringing traditional Irish folk music to the world's attention since 1962. They reinvent Irish folk by weaving together a sense of both fragile and forceful that makes their live shows energetic and invigorating. Generally regarded as a traditional band, The Chieftains have proven themselves to be anything but. They once went so far as to work with NASA astronaut Cady Coleman to record her rendition of Fanny Power while she was on board the International Space Station. The Chieftains members Paddy Moloney and Matt Malloy loaned Cady a tin whistle and flute for the occasion. In 2012 The Chieftains celebrated their 50th anniversary with the release of Voice of Ages . Instead of resting on their well-earned laurels, The Chieftains used their tradition-steeped, sparkling musicianship to explore new and unusual passageways. The album is a collaboration with some of modern music’s fastest rising artists including Bon Iver and The Decemberists, reinterpreting for old and new generations alike, what the music means today while hinting where it might lead tomorrow.
