Description
Understanding the sensitivity of ecosystems to climate change allows us to identify locations most at risk for change. Freshwater bodies such as lakes and reservoirs provide important ecosystems services, and long-term studies on individual lakes have shown a diversity of responses to warming. A global-scale synthesis of lake temperature trends illustrates how combining both ecosystem characteristics as well as a range of climate variables is necessary to explain warming patterns.
