Description
A period piece, Lina Wertmüller’s “libertine comedy” takes place in 18th and early 19th century Naples. On his death bed in 1825, King Ferdinand IV of Naples looks back, remembering his life as a fancy-free younger man. Ferdinand reminisces about hunting and thinks fondly of his marriage to Maria Carolina (the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria), a political union which turned into a passionate love affair. He also recalls, with dread, the revolutionaries he sentenced to death.
